Ufuma Community Celebrates Otute Uvume Festival

Raymond Ozoji, Awka

The people of Ufuma community in Orumba-North  Local Government Area of Anambra State have resolved to toe the path of peace and unity.

They have decided to jettison their differences which resulted from the leadership rancour which had existed in the town for several years.

This resolution was demonstrated yesterday at the grand ceremony of  Egwu Otute Uvume festival as they trooped out en masse to share some fun and love.

This air of uncertainties, disaffection and polarisation which before recently existed in the community was captured in the address of the President-General of the community, Sir Basil Onwunze, and the Chairman, Egwu Otute Planning Committee, Nze Nestor Nnaemeka Okoro, a former council chairman of Orumba-North council chairman .

The sleepy community recorded unusual human and vehicular movements as its indigenes from far and near returned home for the annual festival they hold dear to heart.

Otute Uvume, which celebration, according to the traditional ruler of the community, HRH Igwe S. Chika Uchime, lasts for 32 days marks their yearly new yam festival.
