Ebere Chibuzor writes on the recreational activities embarked upon by church members of Living Waters Unlimted Church (LWUC) during their Family Week recently
Members of Living Waters Unlimted Church (LWUC) on the 26th of November, 2015 took out quality time to recreate at a notable Fun Factory Admiralty way in Lekki Phase1,Lagos. The 4-day event was memorable as the fun factory created the right ambience for church members to relax and network after the usual Sunday service.
LWUC family week days was segmented into three. It started from Thursday, November, 26th till November, 29th with theme ‘God In The Family’ at Grace Tabernacle, Apostolic Faith Campground Road, Anthony Village, funday November, 29th held at Fun Factory Admiralty way, Lekki Phase1.
On that day, five branches of LWUC and their guests gathered at the fun factory immediately after church service. According to the church, the gathering is in line with the biblical principles which teaches that the concept of family is extremely important in the Bible, both in a physical sense and in a theological sense.
Stressing this point, Senior Pastor Ladi Thompson, LWUC noted that the concept of family was introduced in the very beginning as we see in Genesis 1:28. He said that God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground, noting that God’s plan for creation is for a man and woman to marry and have children.
He also said that a man and a woman would form a “one-flesh” union through marriage and their children become a family”. “Our very existence as a society is contingent on the success of the family. And that explains why satan hates it so and has declared war on the family unit. It has been said, “A family can survive without a nation but a nation cannot survive without the family”, Pastor Thompson noted.
According to Thompson, characteristic of this spiritual family is love for one another, adding that “a new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. John 1:34- 35”. “All our preaching, teaching, evangelizing and church activity is worthless at the sporty at large if it is not founded in and grounded upon the love f God”.
Apostle John writing in his epistle to the Church in 1John 2:9 and 1John 4:20, “anyone who claims to love God, yet hates his brother is a ‘liar’, he said. Explaining further on what informs the family week; Pastor Thompson said, the purpose was to expand God’s kingdom. Therefore there was need to pay attention to our nearest, dearest family as well, Pastor pointed out.
“This is the reason we celebrate family week at Living Waters Unlimited Church, LWUC”, he explained. It is a time we remind ourselves of what family is”. “Family is where godly values are taught and learned. Where Love of God is displayed, modeled among others”, LWUC founder spokes.
“The first family God had given to us to demonstrate our love for him is the people seated in the chairs around you”. Thompson who described family as primacy of the Kingdom of God also advised members during family week to critically examine their effect on our environment.
Commenting, Pastor Olaolu Oladosu pointed out that family week of LWUC was an annual program where the church seeks to focus on the family units with the aim of building stronger families and relationships.
According to Oladosu, this year’s family week held from 26th to 29th of November 2015, adding that “as usual, it had all the five campuses of the church located at Ajah, Anthony, Ketu, Isolo and Ikoyi in active participation seminars and sermons were delivered on relationships comprising Meeting The Right Spouse, Training Your Child Aright amongst other topical issues. High point of the family week was the family fun fair which usually takes place at the fun factory in Lekki phase 1.
Traditionally, it was a time where all church members had fun while children also engage in fun rides Popcorns, sweets, ice creams and food of various types were served in abundance; drinks were plenteous, adults also participated in several games.
Explaining further, Oladosun said that the aim of the family fun fair was to create bonding time among members of LWUC within and across the various campuses, emphasizing that the outing has created an unofficial atmosphere where members could get to know each other while participating in competitive games and dining together.
Describing the program as always good, Oladosu said such gathering has led to the continuation of the program for many years. “It also affords the opportunity for parents who otherwise cannot afford to take their children out to pleasurable places that aid children development and socialization to at least have this once every year”, “People who also do not have opportunities for vacation and relaxation take advantage of this program to relax and socialize”, Pastor reiterated. He said, this year’s family week was a huge success and promised hat next year’s edition will be more successful.
