Zaria Golf Club Wins 2016 NB Open Golf,

Ahmed Abdullahi from Zaria Golf Club has emerged winner of the 2016 edition of the Nigerian Breweries (NB) Plc Open Golf Tournament, which ended at the Ola Sa’ad  Golf Club, Jaji, last weekend.

He ruled the pole position of Best Gross with 145, while the Bawa Umar from Kaduna Golf Club settled for the Runner-up Gross with 51 gross.

Racheal Danjuma of the Jaji Golf Club emerged winner of the ladies category after 173 gross, while Amina Winifred of IBB Golf Club was runner-up gross.

Zaria dominated the veterans’ category as Adamu Yusuf and Yaro Shehu won the Best Gross and Runner-up Gross respectively.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Managing Director of NB Plc, Mr. Nicholas Vervelde said that as a company NB is driven by a philosophy of winning with Nigeria.

“…for the past 70 years through strategic partnerships like this event we are celebrating today, it shows the special importance we give to such relationship,” he said.

Vervelde who was represented by the Kaduna Brewery Manager, Adebolu Obawole, explained that his company has developed strong friendship and partnership with the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC) and the Jaji Golf Club for the greater part of their 52 years of Brewing operational excellence in Kaduna.

He noted that in spite of all the economic challenges, they have continued to put in their very best to steer the company to great operational excellence.

“Through our corporate social responsibility (CSR) platform, and also, not relenting in our continuous sponsorship of the Jaji Golf championship which we hold very dear to our heart owing to the relationship that we have nurtured for over 33 years.

Speaking further, the Brewery Manager said that his company, in no small way, appreciates the huge efforts of the Nigerian military in “defending our sovereignty and the protection of lives and properties in the country, especially at these challenging times”.

Also speaking the Public Affairs Manager, Mr. Danjuma John-Ekkelle revealed that Nigerian Breweries have organized the golf tournament for record 33 times with at least 100 athletics participating meaning that the company has engaged over 3,300 athletics.

“The company has a work force of about 4000 with a value added per job of N27 million, which is 65 times the GDP per Nigerian worker. In 2013, the NB supported N110 Billion tax payment (4.6% of non-oil tax revenues)’’ he added.
