Watford’ll Pass Premier League Test –Ighalo

Nigeria international Odion Ighalo says his club, Watford, are looking forward to a memorable start after so many years away from the English top flight. Watford open their English Premier League campaign tomorrow against Everton at Goodison Park.

“I am looking forward to a tough game against Everton, but my target is to get three points or at least a point from the game,” said the striker, who scored 20 goals last season to help Watford secure promotion to the EPL.

Watford are under a new manager, have signed 10 new players for the new season and are widely tipped to make a prompt return to the lower league. But Ighalo has insisted his club will stay up.

“Watford will compete in the EPL. I think we have team that can do well. By the grace of God and hard work, we will stay up,” he told Africanfootball. com.

“My top priority is to help my team stay in the EPL and score goals in the process, I am not aiming for top scorer’s award, if it comes, I will thank   God but keeping my team up is the target.” Champions Chelsea will still be the team to beat despite an indifferent preseason, according to the Super Eagles striker.

“I don’t think pre-season can determine a team performance in the league, the league is a different ball game. Chelsea remain a contender for the EPL title,” Ighalo said.
