Werder Bremen coach places premium on Nigeria international
Werder Bremen coach, Viktor Skripnik has described striker as “everything” to the club after sweating over the fitness of the Nigeria international ahead of yesterday’s Bundesliga match against Augsburg.
There were strong doubts whether Ujah, Bremeb captain Clemens Fritz and left-back Santiago Garcia, can feature in the away game, with the trio having different injury concerns.
“These are crucial players for us. Of course, the hope is great that they’ll be fit,” said Skripnik.
Fritz, who paused for a hardening in the left thigh, completed a tough test, while Ujah was on the training ground prior to yesterday’s game.
“He (Ujah) wants to be there, is everything. I like that very much,” said Skripnik.
Ujah was still recovering from the severe rib injury (suffered in training last Wednesday). After warming up with the joint team, the Nigerian avoided the practice match and completed instead an individual program with Athletics Coach Jörn Heineke.
“I still can’t be involved in body contact. Tomorrow I will train with the team again,” Ujah announced afterwards.
