U-23 AYC: Leroy, Siasia In War Of Words Over Qualification

Nigeria’s Under 23 coach, Samon Siasia and his Congolese counterpart, Claude Leroy are in disagreement over who is in the pole position to qualify for the Africa Youth Championship, after Nigeria defeated Congo 2-1 at the Adokie Amasiamake Stadium in Port Harcourt on Sunday. Leroy remains defiant despite his side’s 2-1 first-leg defeat to Nigeria’s Dream Team VI claiming he fielded a relatively weaker side than the team, which conquered Ghana. ”

I knew that it would be very very difficult playing in Nigeria. We didn’t play the way we wanted to play but we got a vital goal. ” We came up against a good team and we didn’t come with super players or play at our normal level. These players came from allover but all from small sides unlike the team we presented against Ghana,” Leroy said. ”

Certainly, we would play differently in the second leg and we’ll get the desired win for qualification in Pointe Noire.” Siasia however thinks otherwise, he said it would be a lot easier for his side contrary to Leroy claims, blaming his wasteful side for the score line.

It is not over for us, we will qualify because we are technically and tactically superior but my attackers were wasteful last weekend. “We missed a lot of chances, we could have scored more goals but sincerely the boys played well. We shall work on the mistakes we have noticed before the second leg,” Siasia stated.
