U-20 World Cup: Nigeria Will Give Us Problem, Brazil Coach Admits

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles poses a big challenge to Brazil’s championship aspiration at this year’s FIFA Under-20 World Cup, Head Coach of the Junior Selecao Alexandre Gallo has said.

While Brazil have won the World Youth Championship five times, Nigeria’s best achievements to date are runner-up medals at the 1989 and 2005 tournaments.

The Flying Eagles, who will face Brazil in one of the first games in Group E where North Korea and Hungry are also nestled, are currently in Nuremberg, Germany, venue of their build-up camp.

“Nigeria always cause us problems,” said Gallo after naming his 26 man provisional list for the competition in New Zealand.

“They’re a strong team, technically good with good players. “Hungary have a typically European style – direct football, tall players. North Korea don’t have very technical players, but they close you down a lot, they have speed and counter-attack intensely.”

Manchester United playmaker Andreas Pereira and Real Madrid forward Jean Carlos are two of the prodigious talents that the Flying Eagles would have to contend with when both sides meet in New Zealand

“We called up committed players who have experience representing their country and have their careers shaped,.

“We need players who are fully focused on our targets after our experience at the South American Championship,” Gallo explained.
