Barcelona defender Javier Mascherano hailed striker Luis Suarez after the Uruguayan’s goal helped the Spanish club beat Juventus 3-1 in the Champions League final.
Suarez, 28, arrived from Liverpool for £75 million last summer and completed his first season at the Camp Nou by winning a Treble of La Liga, the Copa del Rey and Champions League.
The striker netted after Alvaro Morata had cancelled out Ivan Rakitic’s fourth-minute opener, with Neymar sealing a third in the final minute, and Mascherano insists that winning trophies was the reason Suarez came to the club. “Luis came here for this,” the Argentinian told ITV Sport. “He’s a great player with a positive mentality.
He’s a top player and a really good person, so I am really happy for him. “In the season we had some difficult moments we had to pass, but we did it. We kept working and today we can celebrate.”
