Memphis Depay declared it was an “honour” to partner a “legend” like Wayne Rooney on his Manchester United debut. Depay, who joined United for £25 million from PSV Eindhoven earlier in the summer, made his first appearance in the 1-0 win over Club America.
He was partnered with Rooney, the third-highest scorer in United’s history, in the forward line in the first half and said the captain was a huge help to him.
“Wayne coached me a lot through the game and talked to me about which position I should take and when to defend,” Depay told United’s official website. “We have to form a duo and I have the right feeling with him. It’s an honour to play with such a legend like Wazza.
