Rio 2016 Qualifier: Falcons To Face E/Guinea Without Oshoala, Ebi

Oladipo Okubanjo

Striker Asisat Oshoala and defender Onome Ebi would be missing in action when the Nigeria women’s national soccer team play Nzalang Nacional of Equatorial Guinea this Saturday in the first leg of their Rio 2016 Olympic qualifier, Super Falcons coach, Chris Danjuma has confirmed.

Danjuma, who assumed the role of head coach, albeit in acting capacity, following the sack of his erstwhile boss Edwin Okon, however disclosed that Oshoala could still be available for the game as there was no final word on her availability at the time of filing this report.

“Oshoala is still being expected though it’s almost looking certain that she will miss the first fixture clash on Saturday but will be available for the reverse fixture in Bata.

Onome Ebi is equally ruled out from the clash. “We have other invited foreignbased professionals with us for the crucial match namely Desire Oparanozie, Ngozi Okobi, Josephine Chukwunonye, Francisca Ordega, Evelyn Nwabuoku, Esther Sunday, among others,” said Danjuma. He assured that the Falcons would put up a good performance despite the absence of the Liverpool Ladies forward Oshoala and FC Mink strong woman Ebi.

“We have pool of quality players so be rest assured that we will feature our very best legs against Equatorial Guinea on Saturday in Abuja,” Danjuma told supersport. “The players have blended and responded quite beautifully to our match tactics and anxiously roaring to unleash their weights on the visitors.

“Our mindset is to take each game as cup final to end it there and then and pick the trophy so that is the mentality we are bring into the game. “Kill off the game right here on home soil, kill off the opponents and forget the reverse fixture in Bata or as they will say make the second leg a mere formality.”
