Osimhen’s Chile Heroics On Trial In Senegal

Nigeria’s Olympic Team coach gives FIFA Under 17 highest goal scorer late call as replacement for Isaac Success

FIFA Under 17 highest goal scorer, Victor Osimhen’s heroics at the Last World Cup in Chile will be on test as he is expected to join Nigeria’s Under 23 team in their quest for one of the tickets for next year’s Olympics in Rio.

Osimhen was a late call up by coach Samson Siasia yesterday as replacement for Isaac success.

Osimhen broke the tournament’s goal scoring record by scoring ten times which helped Nigeria lift the Under 17 trophy a record five times and he is expected to partner the likes of Taiwo Awoniyi to fire Nigeria into the Olympics.

Success was originally listed on the final squad submitted to CAF and Nigeria may now have to pay a fine to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for this late change.

Osimhen is reportedly a target of several top European clubs with his agent saying Arsenal have shown the most interest thus far.

Meanwhile, the Team is expected to leave Gambia for Senegal the venue of this year’s African U23 Championship which begins this weekend today.

According to team secretary Sirajo Hassan, the delegation made up of 23 players and 10 associated officials will depart the Banjul International Airport at about 11pm aboard Arik Airline for Dakar.

Before departure, the team will play their last friendly game against the Gambian U20 side in Banjul.

Former Flying Eagles forward Taiwo arrived the team’s camp on time before their departure.

On arrival he said qualifying for the Rio 2016 Olympics is not negotiable.

“This is work time, qualifying for the Rio Olympics is non-negotiable as we have no excuse to give Nigerians, that’s why we have to put in our best to get something out of Senegal.”
