No Lower League Player Will Wear Eagles’ Shirt –Oliseh

Chimaobi Uchendu

Sunday Oliseh, yesterday, gave a glimpse of what to expect from him as Super Eagles’ handler by declaring that any player that is not plying his trade in top division will not be invited to his squad. He said gone are the days when players are invited by quota system rather on their abilities.

“No player outside the first division in Nigeria or elsewhere will play for Super Eagles. It is a standard practice not only in Europe but in countries that are serious minded about success,” he said. “The national team is not a breeding or experimental ground, but a place of national pride and I’m here to uphold that.” Oliseh added that gone are the days   when an individual would hold the nation hostage by snubbing invitation to play for Nigeria.

“Gone are those days when we had individual players who can win games on their own. But we have potentials.” He asked those judging him based on his past to give him space to prove himself “If you judge Sunday from the past, you will be making a big mistake,” he said.

“We have all matured, am not coming as a Messiah; I am not coming to create miracles but I will do my reprebest. “My assistants are all here on merit. I will not invite a foreigner who will come here and act like I am bigger than thou. We will work with the technical committee, because if we fail, they fail.
