NBA: Aminu Rejects N218m Player Deal

Al-Farouq Aminu has a $1.1 million (N218 million) player option for next year, meaning he can choose to return to the Dallas Mavericks for that money. But the Nigeria international beat expectations almost all year and averaged 11.2 points and 7.2 rebounds while shooting 63.6 percent on 3-pointers in the Mavericks’ fivegame series with the Rockets. His value is more $1.1 million, and that’s apparent to all involved. Aminu said on Wednesday that he’d decline his option be a free agent this summer.

“I think it makes the most sense to me,” he said. “You just look for a great fit. This year, I think I found one. Hopefully, I can do the same.” Is money important? “I would hope to think so,” Aminu said. Mavericks GM Donnie Nelson said the team would like to reacquire Aminu.

Working in the Dallas’ favour is the Aminu’s fit within the   Mavericks — although that might change with just four players under contract for next year — and his development under Rick Carlisle. The coach promised Aminu that he’d develop his game.
