Murray Upbeat About Davis Cup Final

Andy Murray has reacted positively to the news that Britain’s Davis Cup final against Belgium in November will be played on an indoor clay court in Ghent.

“Clay is a good surface for us,” he tweeted. “Looking forward to it.” The world No 3 would surely have preferred it to be played on a hard court, especially as that will be the surface for the previous week’s Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London.

The Scot had suggested that he might pull out of the O2 Arena event to give himself time to prepare for the Davis Cup final if it was played on clay, though he may face punishment since participation in London is mandatory for all qualifiers.

Murray won his first clay-court titles this year in Munich and Madrid but it remains his most testing surface and has caused him back problems in the past. – The Independent
