Muguruza Pulls Out Of Hong Kong Open

Garbine Muguruza has decided to pull out of this week’s Hong Kong Open to rest an ankle complaint after a busy fortnight. The 22-year-old won just her second WTA Tour title at the weekend when she beat Timea Bacsinszky in straight sets in the final of the China Open, pushing her up the rankings to No.4 in the world. The Spaniard’s success in Beijing came hot on the heels of her run to the final of the Wuhan Open where she was forced to retire from her clash with Venus Williams due to an  ankle issue. The same injury was troubling her at the China Open and to make sure she is ready for the WTA Finals at the end of the month, Muguruza has taken the decision not to compete in Hong Kong this week. “Muguruza suffered a left ankle injury while playing in the Wuhan Open at the beginning of October,” Hong Kong organisers said on the tournament website. “The Spaniard will now rest the injury ahead of a likely appearance at the season- ending WTA Finals beginning on October 25.”
