Monaco shareholder Alessandro Proto says the club would be willing to pay Jose Mourinho’s release clause to land the Chelsea boss. The Ligue 1 outfit have been strongly linked with a move for Mourinho, who is coming under increasing pressure at Stamford Bridge as the Blues struggle to defend their Premier League title this season.
Monaco have made their interest in the Portuguese tactician well known and now Proto has claimed the principality outfit would pay the Blues the release clause fee to land their under-pressure manager.
“Mourinho is the best coach in the world”, claimed Proto, according to the Mirror.
“If necessary, I’ll pay (Chelsea owner Roman) Abramovich the release clause straight up so that he lets Mourinho go.” Reports claim Mourinho must return Chelsea to winning ways in the next two games or face the sack following yet another defeat at the weekend at the hands of Liverpool, but there would be a queue of clubs keen to appoint him should he soon find himself out of work.
