Liverpool Reject City’s £40m For Sterling

Manchester City must decide whether to meet Liverpool’s £50m asking-price for Raheem Sterling after their latest £40m bid was rejected. City were hopeful that Wednesday’s improved offer – a matter of hours before a new tabloid newspaper report claimed to show Sterling at a party with friends who appear to be taking nitrous oxide – would tempt the Anfield club into parting with the England international.

However, the Merseyside club’s American owners stuck to their original stance that Sterling is not for sale as he has two years left on his contract. City must now decide whether to try one last time with an offer closer to Liverpool’s £50m valuation or pull out altogether and pursue other targets.
