Ighalo Happy To Give Watford First EPL Win

Striker revels in helping club to first win in current league season

Nigeria international Odion Ighalo says he is proud to get Watford their first victory in the English Premier League this season and it was also a huge relief for the club to win.

The former Udinese striker scored the only goal as 10-man Watford beat Swansea City 1-0 on Saturday to move up to 12th place on the table.

Watford dominated the first half, pressing Swansea all over the field and refusing to allow them to settle. But the goal refused to come, despite a series of near misses, often created by Ikechi Anya’s raids from left-back.

But finally, just short of the hour, Swansea failed to defend a long forward pass down the left, Troy Deeney headed the ball sideways to Ighalo, and he struck the ball past Lukasz Fabianski.

“I am delighted and feel great to score the goal that gave us our first victory this season,” Ighalo told AfricanFootball.com

“Firstly, I say thanks to God for the victory and goal. We did well as a team and we worked hard together for the victory.

“The victory is a big relief for us because we have been playing well and deserved victory.”
