Youngster, Abdullahi Alfa, has explained how he felt after he was excluded from Nigeria’s final 21-man squad for the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in New Zealand. The 18-year-old has been an integral part of Manu Garba’s team right from the last Under-17’s and made the trip to Germany for Flying Eagles’ training camp before the final squad was announced, but was conspicuously missing from the list. Alfa revealed he couldn’t eat the night he was told he wouldn’t be going to New Zealand. “I was shocked,” he said.
“I couldn’t eat that night when I was told I won’t be a part of the team. “I cried all night and my teammates had to console me but it wasn’t enough because I had so much hope and expectation,” he said.
Alfa however said he’s now trying to look beyond the disappointment and focus on his future. “It has happened and there is nothing I can do about it. I’m still a young player so now I have to concentrate on my future and my career. “It was sad but it is not the end of the world so now I have to move on,” he stated.
