Hodgson Counsels Sterling

Roy Hodgson believes Raheem Sterling is starting to realise that he will need an “even thicker skin” after the Liverpool contract rebel was jeered during England’s goalless draw with Republic of Ireland.

The 20-year-old struggled to have a telling impact on the disappointing friendly at The Aviva despite coming up against makeshift left-back Robbie Brady in his first appearance since a 6-1 defeat at Stoke City.

Sterling’s agent has indicated Hodgson Counsels Sterling that the England international won’t be signing a new deal with the Reds after he reportedly rejected a £100,000-a-week deal from Liverpool earlier this year.

England manager Hodgson was quick to defend Sterling’s performance against the Irish, adding that the Manchester United target is coming to terms with recent criticism in the media. “He is going through a bad time publicly,” Hodgson told his postmatch media conference.
