Goal-Shy Olympic Eagles Worry Siasia

Nigeria’s Under-23 team coach flays team despite winning friendly

Head coach of the Nigeria Under- 23 team, Samson Siasia, has said he was unimpressed even though his team trounced Gambia top league side Real Banjul 3-0 in an African U23 Championship buildup game played in Banjul.

Forward Etebo Oghenekaro scored all the goals.

Siasia said he was disappointed with the way the team played in the first half despite dominating the game, adding that they should not be missing chances to score goals after creating them.

“I’m not impressed with what my boys displayed, I expected them to let their dominance count in front of goal and if they can’t convert these chances then we will be in trouble in Senegal .

“We will keep on working on them and hopefully they will get it right,” said the coach, whose team are getting set for the Africa Under-23 Championship in Senegal at the end of this month.

Warri Wolves star, Oghenkaro, opened scoring for the Nigeria Under- 23s in the 25th minute from the penalty spot after skipper Sincere Seth was brought down inside the box.

Oghenekaro doubled the lead at the start of the second half, before he completed his treble minutes later after he was set up by Stanley Dimgba.

Meanwhile, after observing Sunday as rest day, the Nigeria Dream Team VI today play their second test game against the Gambia Under-20 team.
