Firm Donates Sports Equipment To Nigeria Modern Pentathlon Federation

An indigenous firm, Zeepro International Ltd., on Tuesday donated sports equipment to the Nigeria Modern Pentathlon Federation (NMPF) in Lagos.

The News Agency of Nigeria  reports that the equipment donated include fencing uniforms and helmets, Olympic table, two laser guns, water dispenser and microwave.

Pentagon is an Olympic sport that comprises five events.

They are fencing, 200m free style, swimming, show jumping with horse and a final combined event of pistol shooting and a 3200m cross country run.

The sport has been a core sport of the Olympics since 1912.

Zephrynus Ikeh, the CEO of the firm, who described himself as sport enthusiast, said he was delighted to contribute to sports development.

“Pentathlon, being a new sport in Nigeria and Olympic sport for decades, requires generosity of all and sundry to help the sport to occupy its rightful place among competing nations,” he said.

Ikeh appealed to philanthropists to support the sport.

“I commend board members of pentathlon for facilitating her entrance in Nigerian sports calendar.

“I therefore look forward that in no distant time, pentathlon will occupy her rightful position in the sports sector globally,” he said.

Jonathan Nnaji, the President of NMPF commended the firm for the donation, saying it would help in the training of athletes and assist them to improve their skills.

“The equipment are the latest ones and they are good. Our athletes will be able to train with the latest equipment in the sport,” he said.

Tunde Popoola, the Secretary-General, NOC, applauded the donor for the gesture.

Popoola, who said the equipment would help the federation, urged individuals and corporate organisations to key into the organisation’s vision. (NAN)
