Ghana international midfielder Michael Essien arrived at Panathinaikos on Monday night ahead of finalizing his move Athens-based club this week. The 32-year-old is available on a free transfer following the expiration of an 18-month contract at AC Milan.
Essien took time to give interviews to the local media and posed for photographs with several Panathinaikos supporters. Panathinaikos are willing to offer a two-year deal for €1.1m per season, bound to rise to €1.5m with bonuses added.
The former Chelsea midfielder posted on his Twitter account: “Just touched down in Athens and the love from the Panathenikos fans was incredible.#pao” Panathinaikos won the Greek Super Legaue and will play in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
