With adequate funding and preparation, NBBF board member is sure Nigeria will be represented at next year’s event
Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) board member, Agboola Pinheiro has assured that the national women’s basketball team-D’Tigress will be given adequate support in terms of funding and technical support as the team prepare for the Olympics play-offs next year.
Pinheiro asserted that funding dilemma has been a major task, including logistics and other sundry expenses. He, however, expressed strong optimism that before June next year all major challenges would have been sorted out.
“We will make sure that D’Tigress qualify for the Olympics tournament. Though, funding is one issue that we’re aware of as a major dilemma going by the D’Tigers experience. The summary is we’re likely to partner with the NSC to get the funding. They will surely be given adequate preparation ahead because of the countries they are likely to be group with.”
Remarking on the chances of the home-based players in view of the probable strengthening of the squad to achieve the Rio Olympics 2016 “
By April or May next year, all leagues should have ended. Therefore, their chances are good but that depends on the technical crew. I can be categorical about the squad beefing-up although some new players are making contact with the federation. Let cross the bridge when the time comes.”
Meanwhile, the veteran basketball administrator was coy over the rife speculation suggesting coaches’ overhaul, with the appointment of a foreign coach on a short-time basis.
