Danger Lurks For Wozniacki

Caroline Wozniacki made an impressive start to her French Open campaign on Tuesday, holding off one of the hottest players of the lead-up season, but danger lurks for the Dane in the shape of her second round opponent.

Facing Karin Knapp, who was fresh off a title run in Nürnberg last week, Wozniacki struggled early on, battling more than half an hour just to stay even at 2-all. But from 4-3 the No.5 seed totally broke away from the Italian, winning eight games in a row to cruise into the second round, 6-3, 6-0.

Next up for Wozniacki is Julia Goerges, who out-hit CoCo Vandeweghe out on Court 5, 6-2, 5-7, 6-1. It’s a dangerous match-up for Wozniacki to say the least – Wozniacki leads Goerges in their overall head-to-head, 4-3, but Goerges beat Wozniacki in both of their previous clay court meetings.

Wozniacki was ranked No.1 in the world in both those encounters, in Stuttgart and Madrid in 2011
