Worried by the lack of maintenance culture of the past, the outgoing Minister of Sports and Chairman National Sports Commission (NSC), Dr. Tammy Danagogo, has advocated that a proper maintenance committee be set up for the athletes’ High Performance Centre (HPC) in Abuja.
He made the call on Wednesday during the official commissioning of the HPC. Danagogo, who represented the Vice-President, Architect Namandi Sambo at the commissioning, said the committee would be saddled with the responsibility of maintaining the edifice.
“We are making sure that a proper maintenance team is set up so that it will be manage by the National Sports Commission,” he said.
“It would be done in such a way that some of the athletes sponsored by the NSC, the commission will pay for them and some of those coming from anywhere in the world will pay a token that would be used to maintain the centre.”
The centre, the minister added, can also accommodate national team players based on recommendation from the team officials.
