John Mikel Obi have told Chelsea fans that the squad have not given up on a top four position even though they currently are far from the cut.
The player, who has featured 350 times for the Londoners, added: “Top four? I don’t think it’s gone. We’ve got lots of games to catch up and if we keep going in this direction and keeping clean sheets, we will definitely score goals.”
Mikel also gave his view on the suggestion that there was a ‘palpable discord’ between former manager Jose Mourinho and the players.
The Portuguese was sacked for the second time by Roman Abramovich after the club recorded the worst defence of a Premier League title in history. Former boss GuusHiddink has taken over in a caretaker role as the club hope to rise as they fight to regain a European spot.
Mikel said: “I think the atmosphere was fine, always fine but we just weren’t getting the results, I don’t know what it was.
“Jose is a fantastic manager and he will always be a fantastic guy. Sometimes football is a cruel game, you have to move on.
“He’s come back second time, won the club another trophy. Now the change has been made, we have to move on.”
