Bright Dike Part Ways With Toronto FC

Toronto FC ON Wednesday announced that the club has parted ways with Nigerian international Bright Dike.

With Toronto FC still looking to potentially make another move before the transfer window closes, waiving the striker was seen as a necessary means to open up a roster spot. Dike came to Toronto FC in 2013 but managed to feature in just 11 matches for Toronto, converting only once in his time as a Red.

The striker’s on-pitch contributions were severely limited due to long term injuries that have seemed to plague Dike’s career wherever he has played.

In Dike’s limited time on the field with Toronto he had shown glimpses of the physical strength and positional awareness that had spurred call-ups to the Super Eagles squad. He was even pegged to join Nigeria for the 2014 World Cup before suffering a second torn Achilles that resulted in him sitting out a large part of the 2014 season.

In 2015 Dike had only appeared in two matches for Toronto FC, registering an assist in twenty minutes of play. The striker was subsequently sent on loan to the San Antonio Scorpions of the NASL. While at San Antonio, Dike managed to equal his scoring total for Toronto FC, finding the back of the net once in roughly 100 minutes of play.
