The Special Assistant to the Senate President Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, Mr Victor Abang, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mr Abang who moved with over 500 supporters in his Kakwagom Bawop Ward in Boki Local Government Area in the Central Senatorial District of the state also took along 15 members of the ward executive including the chairman and secretary and two officials of the chapter executive of PDP to the APC.
The event which took place at the Kakwagom Market comes closely at the heels of the recent movement of the former Senate Leader, Senator Victor Ndoma Egba, his political godfather and was attended by several prominent political figures in Boki Local Government Area and from Calabar the state capital.
Giving reasons for his movement to the APC, Mr Abang said following ugly developments in the PDP in the state where there is glaring lack of internal democracy and reckless imposition of candidates he had to obey the will of his teeming supporters that rather than stay in a party where decisions are taken by a few against the opinion of the majority of the party members, it is expedient to move to a better political climate which the APC offers.
Several of his supporters who spoke on the occasion expressed joy that their leader has finally agreed to their appeal to leave the PDP for another party which they have mounted pressure since the run-up to the 2015 elections where candidates were pickled arbitrarily by the leadership of the PDP against the will and consent of the party members.
The decampees were welcomed to the APC by the Chapter Chairman of the APC, Clement Osowan Nku-otu and other dignitaries who expressed joy that with the calibre of his personality and political weight, the APC has taken over the Kakwagom Bawop Ward and subsequently the Boki Local Government Area. They assured him of fair play and justice at all times as he is now the one the party will look up to in the ward and local government area to change the political fortunes of the area.
