Rerun: Udom Raises Alarm Over APC’s Plot To Seize Akwa Ibom

Iniobong Ekponta, Uyo
Ahead of the anticipated rerun of the governorship election in the State, the roving All Progressives Congress (APC) has bared its fangs, threatening to take over Akwa Ibom State, no matter whose Ox is gored.
The National Chairman of the APC in-charge of South South, Hilliard Etta, who addressed supporters in Uyo, the State capital, said the party would deploy the Federal might to cow some PDP chieftains to submission in the run up to the contest.
As soon as the Supreme Court upholds the verdict of the Appeal Court, which had earlier ordered a rerun of the poll across the 31 Local Government Councils, Etta said security agencies would move against major stakeholders of the PDP.
It was at a recent reception staged by party supporters in Uyo, for the APC governorship flag-bearer, Mr. Umana Okon Umana, and prayers to God for the Appeal Court verdict, which annulled the April 11, 2015 governorship poll in the State.
To be specifically targeted, accord to Etta is the immediate past governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio, now the Minority Whip at the Senate.
“Very soon you will no longer live in fear of Akpabio. You will vote without any fear. We know Akpabio has committed two major sins. He has killed and has also stolen.
“You know Akpabio used to be very hot? Very soon he will be very cold. We will make him to account for all the monies he had stolen, but for killings, he will only gave such account to God”, the APC chief told party supporters that throng the Four Lane Arena of the former Deputy governor, Obong Nsima Ekere.
Like the travails currently be being faced by the PDP Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, Etta hinted that some phantom allegations would be invoked against Akpabio – to pave the way for APC to seize the State by force.
“You know Olisa Metuh used to be hot? Today, he is very cold”, he added and reminded the people of the change in ownership of security agencies, which, according to him, now belong to the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government at the centre.
And apparently disturbed by the ominous signs which portends grave danger to the State and its people, the governor, Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, has raised the alarm and enjoined supporters of the ruling PDP in the State to resist every plot by the central government to seize the State at all cost.
It was at a mega rally organized in his honour by his kinsmen drawn from the 12 Local Government Areas that made up the Eket Senatorial District.
While pledging loyalty to the Buhari-led APC government at the centre, Udom warned against every divisive tendencies orchestrated by the central government to destabilize the State, noting that issues of politics and elections have combined to slow down the pace of development since he took seat as the fourth civilian governor of the 28-year-old State on May 29, 2015.
The governor, who reminded the central government of the existing power rotation principle in the State since 1999, urged the APC not to rock the zoning arrangement, adding that the political undercurrents generated by these agitations were seriously overheating the polity and split the people along ethno-political lines.
