Pomp As Community Celebrates Okorocha’s Victory

Damian Duruiheoma in Owerri graphically captures the sight and sound during a community’s celebration of Governor Okorocha’s re-election victory.

Scores of the people of Atta clan in Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State last Sunday took to the major roads of the town to celebrate what some of them called, “the important election victory” of the governor, Owelle Rochas Okoroccha.

The event, which was, tagged “APC Victory Rally”, saw the three communities that make up the Atta town—Umunam Atta, Egwedu and Atta—coming together to celebrate the APC’s victory, which they referred to as their own victory even after nearly one month after the election.

It also saw the people of the community, led by the state commissioner for Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Uba Nnabue dancing in a motorcade from the community centre—Afor Atta—to the three major parts of the town and back to the Comprehensive Secondary School playground, Atta, where the Governor Okorocha’s representative and Commissioner for Works, Ichie Uche Mbanasor, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Edward Ihejirika and other members of the state executive council joined.

Even the three traditional rulers of the three major communities in the town, Eze Edwin Azike, Eze Clement Obilor and Eze Uchenna Nwaka as well as religious leaders led by Most Rev. Nwaka were not left out of the celebration as they joined to pray and bless their people in their celebration. This was even as all the various great masquerades of the community were let loose thereby putting the entire town in celebration mood.

The event also had a roll call of prominent people of the community who returned from their various locations and turned out in their numbers to be part of the occasion. Some of them include Chief Edwin Olisa of Diamond Brothers; Chief Boniface Uzoho (Bonjack), Chief Willy Onyema, Chief Sam Okwara, Hon. (Mrs.) Pauline Duru Rajis, Dr. Nelson Ogoma, Chief Friday Ojinnaka, Dr. Basil Izuagba, Hon. Damian Ezike (Njaba LGA TC member Atta Ward 3), Victor Obioma, Barr. Macmoris Agbasi, Hon. Ikechukwu Agbasi and many others.

Speaking at the rally, Governor Okorocha who was represented by Mbanasor commended the people of the clan for standing tall among the few areas that voted for the APC starting from the presidential down to the house of assembly seat (five over five).

He assured the people of the clan that his rescue mission was still on course until every community in the state has government presence.

The governor also assured that despite the dwindling federal allocations, his administration would complete all ongoing projects and carry out his campaign promises of providing employments for the teeming population of the youths in the state.

He expressed happiness at the pomp and pageantry displayed by the people of the community all for his honour, and promised not to let them down.

He urged them to stop running any of their brothers appointed in the government down as that retards development. Speaking also, Prof Nnabue who is a native of the community hailed the organizers of the event for their initiative.

He said the celebration was worth it because the people of the community had more than enough reasons to vote for the APC-led government.

According to him, “This is a place we rejected to be bought over by mercantile politicians who had vowed to cut short our joy of having ingredients of township. To God be the glory that we did not allow them to have their way even with their large sums of money.

“This is the first government in the history of Imo State that has given our people a sense of belonging by constructing four roads that lead to the community, building three different storey building classroom blocks and above all changing the face of our secondary school to look like the ones you people see in Owerri.

“By our pattern of voting, our people have shown that we will always choose good governance over money and I am proud to say that our people have improved immensely in the way they play politics. And I want to use this opportunity to advise our people that in everything you do don’t focus on money first. Many people have missed their opportunity by focusing on immediate benefit”, he said.

Nnabue promised to ensure that all the ongoing projects within the community were completed as soon as the governor commences his second term, adding that the community would not be left out when the governor starts fulfilling his campaign promises.

Earlier, the chairman of the planning committee and chieftain of the APC in Njaba LGA, Chief Eddy Olisa said the people of the community decided to put up the victory rally because they felt the APC victory was their victory.

According to him, the APC government was one that had shown that the people of Atta would no longer be neglected by government.

“This the governor did by first appointing our illustrious son, Prof. Uba Nnabue as commissioner in his government. Second, when our secondary school was gutted by fire while other buildings in the school battled gross dilapidation, we called on the government and right now as I speak, you can see the face of the college has changed for the better. We are now expecting to have the structure at Emmanuel College Owerri here in our own school.

“Also, as we speak, we now have storey building classroom blocks in the three communities of Atta. As if that is not enough, we also have access roads to our town made possible by our dear governor. So we have every reason to queue behind him during the election and that is what we are celebrating.

“We are celebrating that the road projects going on in the community would be completed. We are also celebrating that our children will continue to receive free education up to university level. We are above all celebrating that our youths will now get real employment because our governor is a talk and do man who has promised jobs and employments and we have no doubt that he our people would immensely benefit”, Olisa enthused.

He stated that the community gathered everyone together to thank them for believing in Rochas and making his victory possible.
