…insists he is the rightful occupant till otherwise

Factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Barrister Ahmed Gulak, has condemned decision of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum (PDPGF) to announce Professor Adewale Ladipo as the new national leader of the party.
Rejecting the position of the PDP governors, Gulak said the action of the governors was in direct disregard of the December 16 2015 Federal High Court Order which directed that Gulak or any other member from the Northeast takes over the party pending an election into the office of the chairman of the party.
“This is not only contrary to the Constitution of the PDP 2012 as amended, is in flagrant contempt of the declarative judgment given by the FCT high Court on the 16th day of December, 2015 which clearly states “that under section 47 (6) of the 1st defendant’s (PDP) constitution, upon the resignation of the former National chairman of the 1st defendant (PDP) from office, ONLY, the plaintiff (Alhaji Barr. Ahmed Ali Gulak) or any other eligible member of the 1st defendant (PDP) from the North-East zone of Nigeria, where the said Chairman of the 1st defendant (PDP) originated is eligible to be appointed to act in that office pending elections into that office.”
The governors, PDP Governors forum had late Wednesday sacked Prince Uche Secondus and directed the National Secretary, Professor Adewale Oladipo to take over the leadership of the party pending when the Caucuses, Board of Trustees and the National Executive council meet to endorse a new chairman of the party from the Northeast.
Gulak who had secured the Federal High Court order had on Wednesday stormed the party secretariat to assume the leadership of the party following the expiration of the 14 days the Court had given Prince Uche Secondus and the PDP to announce a chairman of the PDP from the Northeast to complete the tenure of the region or vacate office for Gulak maintained he is the legal occupant of the office.
He argued that based on the strength of the Court Judgment of December 16 2015 he, Ahmed Gulak is the natural successor to the chairmanship office of the party and not the secretary, Professor Adewale Oladipo whom the governors have pronounced.
Gulak in a statement late Thursday said he has a lot of respect for the governors of the PDP but maintained that the Forum was misadvised to have announced the secretary of the party to take over the leadership for the party which the Court’s directive was clear about him.
Arguing his case further, he submitted that “The National Secretary is precluded by the Constitution of our party from chairing the NEC, NWC and the caucuses of the party. It is only the National Chairman that can chair these organs.
“It is therefore clear that from the statement of the Chairman, PDP Governor’s Forum that the office of the National Chairman was vacant. And this has been cured by the pronouncement of the FCT High Court, Abuja.
“The National Chairman uses this opportunity to appeal to our teeming members nationwide to remain calm and rally round this new leadership so that peace may reign in our party and together we will reposition our party on the path of glory.”
