National chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP- Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff has dismissed the call by aggrieved members of the party over his emergence and calling on his resignation saying “I will not resign.”
Instead, he will rally the dissenting voices and bring them together so that a the PDP would be rebuilt to form a vibrant opposition that would also recapture power in 2019.
The former BoT chairman of the All progressive congress said his mission in the PDP was to come and rebuild the party adding that as a part of the critical stakeholder in the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC), he will download the same instrument used to attract Nigerians to APC will be used to draw Nigerians back to the PDP.
The new PDP chairman said this at a media parley after he formally took over the leadership of the party and had his first official assignments receiving delegates of the party from his home state who came on a solidarity visit.
Sherrif said he is at the mercy of the owners of the party to decide the time of his exit as chairman but stressed that he will be holding a credible congress at all levels of the party to produce credible executives.
Explaining how he left the All Progressives Congress, Senator Sheriff said he is a man guided by principles which was in conflict with the APC’s operations and he left the party.
He stressed the importance of teamwork between him and all other members of the party so that the common good can be achieved.
On Boko Haram, Sen. Sheriff said he has maintained silence on the matter because he has been a private citizen but since his new public appointment, he will use Femi Fani-Kayode as an example of how not to alleged without facts.
He said Fani-Kayode will not go scot free on his recent outburst on him.
Fani-Kayode had alleged that Sheriff is the sponsor of Boko Haram on national TV.
But the PDP chairman said all these allegations are baseless pointing out that if there was any evidence against him in the founding and sponsorship of Boko Haram, he would have been arrested by the government.
Instead he said he quelled the sects rise within five days as governor of the state.
He wondered how he would create a group as Boko Haram which killed his brother and other relations and targeting him.
“I do not know when I will be leaving, it is only at the discretion of the owners of the party to restructure the party for effective delivery.
“The same instrument. We used to make APC attractive to Nigerians we will be doing that Now to attract all Nigerians back to the PDP.
