Pledging to consolidate on her past performances before her constituents at a dinner after her inauguration at the House of Assembly alongside her fellow lawmakers was one way Mr Beverly Ikpeazu Nkemdiche could say thank you for her re-election, reports Raymond Ozoji in Awka
The people of Onitsha-South 2 State Constituency didn’t mince words when they all unanimously and in one accord decided through the exercise of their franchise in the last State House of Assembly Elections that Hon. Mrs . Beverly Ikpeazu Nkemdiche should be returned for a second tenure in office. This decision taken by her constituents was a product of her result-oriented representation at the State House of Assembly during her first tenure.
Having spent greater part of her existence in the United States of America where Hon. Mrs.Beverly Ikpeazu Nkemdiche saw what it means for government to have a social contract with the people in order to make life worth living for them through the provision of basic amenities and infrastructure, she returned home to Onitsha-South constituency 2 and swore that her people would receive the very best of governmental attention.
As a result, the American returnee saw the environmental situation in Odakpu and other areas in Onitsha-South 2 coupled with the inherent health implications and resolved to turn things around for the better. She vowed that her people must be liberated from the grip of slum-life and brought to the forefront and included in government programmes and policies.
Her resolution saw Hon.Mrs. Beverly Ikpeazu Nkemdiche carrying out humanitarian services in the area to alleviate the sufferings of her people using her own personal resources . It was this act of charity and altruism that endeared the American returnee to the entire people of Onitsha-South 2 constituency. Before long, she ventured into politics and declared her intention to contest the 2011 State House of Assembly Elections in her constituency. Following her declaration, the people of Onitsha-South 2 constituency stood by her and she won the election with a landslide without much ado .
Having made an in-road into the Anambra State House of Assembly and became the lawmaker representing Onitsha-South 2 State Constituency in 2011on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance ( APGA ), she put her vows to test by committing herself to realizing them . Her first 4 years could be described as eventful as she dedicated it to service to her people; she was always touring and touring repeatedly the length and breath of her constituency to address developmental issues. Recognizing her efforts, her constituents returned her back to the state House of Assembly in 2015 as a result of her outstanding performance in her first tenure.
Hon. Mrs.Beverly Ikpeazu Nkemdiche who disclosed how she felt to journalists during an after-inauguration party at Finotel Hotel Awka at the weekend said she was grateful to God for bringing her back to her people in Onitsha-South 2 constituency. Having been re-elected into the just constituted 6th Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Ikpeazu stated that the most significant thing in her political career is the bond she had been able to develop between her and her constituents and that by returning her during the recent elections they have shown her love and affection without doubt.
She said that a lot has been achieved on their behalf in the state house of assembly, adding that they have enjoyed dividends of democracy. The lawmaker explained that she visited primary schools and a host of other places in her constituency to ascertain their needs as well as device the right approach to solving them, noting that she has enjoyed an atmosphere of friendship and conviviality with her constituents. According to her, “ for my second term I will push more on health and education this time “.
She however emphasized that people have to be alive to go to school. The lawmaker also said that basic hygiene practice like regular hand-washing with soap and water, brushing teeth and some others would be emphasized more in schools and other places to reduce diseases and infections resulting from poor hygiene practice while she continues to prevail on the executive arm of government to extend its road construction projects and other projects to Onitsha-South 2 State Constituency. The occasion was for merry making no doubt but there was no gainsaying that the people were indeed enjoying a bong with their representatives as she was literally swam by accolades from the guests, many of whom were from her constituents
