The Supreme Court Friday ruled and affirmed that Sen. Annie Okonkwo was the PDP validly nominated and properly returned candidate for Anambra Central in the last Senatorial elections.
The Court, in a unanimous judgment presided by Justice Sylvester N Ngunta, upheld the appeal by Senator Okonkwo who was denied the ticket he won by his strange substitution with Uche Ekwunife.
The apex court was emphatic that the products of the primaries superintended by the then court backed Ejike Oguebego State Executive remain the only valid candidates of the party.
In a brief reaction through a statement by his media adviser, Collins Steve Ugwu, Sen. Okonkwo described the verdict as a bold moral relief for Anambra Central constituents.
“It is a purifier to the agonizing muddy impunity and decadent imposition that the good people of my constituency were made to endure while the insanity lasted,” Okonkwo was quoted as saying.
It will be recalled that the crisis ridden PDP primaries in Anambra state then were fraught with factions especially Anambra Central where the victorious appellant hold forte.
The verdict that is already causing ripples in the state is expected to alter the status of other incumbent senators from the state who all emerged from PDP but not the recognised primary
