The current political reorientation of the party stalwarts may not be unconnected with the change of baton from the PDP to APC at the center following the defeat of the former at the polls in the 2015 general elections.
Recall that recently, Senator Nkechi Nwogu who was the immediate representative for Abia Central Senatorial seat in the National Assembly defected alongside with her supporters to the APC, alleging that there was no internal democracy within the PDP during the last primaries of the Party in the state, shortly before the elections.

Speaking in Umuahia at the group’s gathering over the weekend, Chief Ukasanya disclosed that since the inception of the PDP reign in the State, it has been tales of woes and high handedness as those the party had entrusted their mandate upon turned out to emerge dictators after being made Party leader in the State. “The purpose of forming the Concerned Abians for Good Governance is to make sure that what happened in the past does not occur again.
In the past, everybody kept quiet, any body who becomes the governor of the State will run the State he way he likes”. Ukasanya who attributed the inability of the PDP led government to bad governance, which denied the people of the state from benefiting from the government at the national level for the past sixteen years. On the presence of the APC chieftains, he disclosed, “they are here strictly to observe us, they have not come to drag us into APC , but if they are able to do that they are welcomed.
According to Ukasanya, “I would have moved to APC as an individual, but, our members are also willing and arrangements are on top gear for us to make the change. “The membership of the association is growing on a daily basis, as I speak we have over forty thousand members from all the wards of the 17 council areas of the state and by our calculations they will move into APC, many of us are done with PDP.
“We changed our mind when a family in this state came and hijacked the whole party and turned into their personal estate. We said no, we will not allow them, we all worked during the last election to deliver an APGA candidate whose mandate was stolen during the election”.
Also speaking, the immediate pioneer Chairman of PDP in the state, the immediate past Information Commissioner under Senator Theodore Orji, Eze Chikamnayo disclosed it has been the desire of the South East people to be in the mainstream of National politics, pointing out that hence a President that stands for change has emerged, then, nothing stops the people from the zone not to join in the change.
