Mark Mourns Zik’s Son

Teddy Nwanunobi, Abuja

The Senate President, Senator David Mark, yesterday commiserated with the family of the Nigeria first President, late Chief Nnamdi Azikwe, over the death of his son, late Chief Chukwuma Azikwe. Mark, in a condolence message to the larger family of Late Nnamdi Azikwe, government and people of Anambra State, described late Chukwuma Azikiwe as a distinguished diplomat.

He also added that late Chukwuma Azikiwe lived an exemplary life by sustaining the legacies of his late father through selfless services. He said that late Chukwuma Azikiwe’s death has left a huge vacuum pointing out that the deceased died at a time when the nation needed his services to address some national issues. The Senate President recalled the philanthropic gesture of late Chukwuma Azikiwe, which endeared him to his immediate community and beyond. He observed that his services earned him the title of ‘Owelle of Onitsha’, which was conferred to him by the Obi of Onitsha, HRM, Igwe Alfred Achebe.

“He (Chukwuma) was known for his hard work, selflessness and dedication to duty. This, he brought to bear during his sojourn as an Ambassador before he returned to private life,” Mark noted. The Senate President, therefore, urged the immediate family of the deceased to take heart. “This is a trying time in the history of the family, but quick to pray for God’s divine protection, and also to grant the late Chukwuma an eternal rest,” he said. Senator Mark, who called on the government of Anambra State to give the late Chukwuma Azikwe a befitting burial, urged the people to take solace in God. “Death is inevitable; it must come when it shall,” he added.
