… Visits Abandoned General Hospital Elele-Alimini, Pledges To Revive Facility
Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike Has Declared That His Administration Will Develop And Equip Bori Zonal Hospital For Quality Healthcare Delivery.
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that his administration will develop and equip the Bori Zonal Hospital for quality healthcare delivery to all the local councils serviced by the health facility. Speaking during an unscheduled inspection to the Bori Zonal Hospital on Saturday, Governor Wike said that healthcare delivery will receive priority attention under his leadership. The governor directed officials of the State Ministry of Health and the hospital to furnish him with a design of the areas that require immediate rehabilitation at the hospital in two weeks.
He added that the state government will also update the equipment at the hospital’s operating theatre to bring them to international standard. Wike said : “I expect the comprehensive plan of all areas of critical intervention from the Chief Medical Director in two weeks time. Thereafter, we shall rehabilitate key wards in the hospital and provide all necessary equipment for healthcare delivery.
“We shall also bring the equipment in the hospital’s theatre up to date. Our goal is to ensure that Rivers people and all residents of these area, especially the local government areas serviced by this zonal hospital have access to quality healthcare “. He announced that the state government will also reconstruct the hospital’s staff quarters to accommodate the doctors and other health workers.
The governor directed the hospital management to develop a plan for a special hostel for doctors in training to be constructed by the state government. Earlier, Chief Medical Director of the Bori Zonal Hospital, Dr Okikere Iraguiruma informed the governor that the hospital requires urgent intervention in terms of facilities and equipment to improve her services to the community.
The governor was accompanied on the visit by officials of the commission State Ministry of Health and the State Finance Commissioner, Dr Fred Kpakol. Wike has pledged to revive the General Hospital, Elele- Alimini which was left to rot by the immediate past administration. Governor Wike made the pledge on Saturday when he paid an unscheduled visit to the hospital. The governor expressed dissatisfaction with the condition of the hospital, saying that it posed a security threat to staff and patients.
He said that the state government will improve the facilities at the hospital and also provide the required security necessary for the hospital to function optimally. Governor Wike also said that the road leading to the hospital will be rehabilitated. At the time the governor paid the unscheduled visit to the General Hospital Elele- Alimini on Saturday, health services were at its lowest ebb. The entire environment was overgrown with weeds and the hospital totally isolated. Hospital officials claim that since the hospital was acquired by the Eastern Government from the initial missionary owners, no major intervention has taken place.
