The United Nations programme on HIV/AIDS, UNAIDS and NationalAgency for the Control of AIDS, NACA have confirmed their commitment in partneringwith an Abuja based non-governmental organization known as Centre for Health Education Economic Rehabilitation and Social Security, CHEERS. According to the Country Director of UNAIDS, Bilali Camara,who spoke during the formal commissioning of CHEERS office in Abuja, said he would encourage CHEERS to continue to reach out to the communities.
“And certainly you need sponsors. We would support this effort, we will certainly do that. We appreciate your work and we would continue to work together to make Nigeria a better place”.
He further noted “From my own perspective, civil society organization like yours CHEERS, is very important in making sure that there is a respect for human dignity and there is respect for the ones that are suffering.” Director General, NACA, Prof. John Idoko,commended the organization’s role in ensuring reduction in the HIV/ AIDS scourge, even as he pledged his readiness to partner with CHEERS where necessary .
