Governor David Umahi Re- Presents A Budget Estimate Of N 75.8 Billion To The State House Of Assembly For Consideration As He Sacks 13 Local Government Caretaker Committee Chairmen And 64 Development Centre Coordinators .
Governor David Umahi yesterday re- presented a budget estimate of N 75:8 billion to the State House of Assembly for consideration. The re- presentation of the budget estimate by Umahi followed the inability of the former governor, Chief Martin Elechi and his top echelons, to come and defend his N 80:I billion budget, which was presented to the House on December 31 20I4.
According to him, the budget was 11% less than the budget presented by the former governor. He termed the budget “ a budget of a reality or budget of repositioning”, noting that the budget is a reflection of the reality of the economic situation in Nigeria and Ebonyi State following the fall in oil revenue.
He called on the civil servants and politicians alike to make sacrifices to make the budget estimate to work, adding that the executive class had been asked to make 50% sacrifice of their income.
The Ebonyi State Governor promised not to interfere with the activities of the House of Assembly to make it productive. He seized the opportunity to announce the sacking of the 13 local government caretaker committee chairmen and the 64 development centre coordinators .
Addressing the people at the occasion, the Speaker of the House of Assembly,Hon.Friday Ogbonnaya Nwifuru expressed his desire for budget discipline, to make the budget work. He promised to take their oversight functions very seriously, just as he called for increased funding of the House to enable it operate at maximum.
