Rivers State House of Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja has upheld the election of Mr Kelechi Nwogu of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), as the member, representing Omuma State Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The Petition was filed by Leo Anyanwu of APC who was defeated during the last rerun.
In a judgment delivered by the Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Ali Garba stated that Nwogu was elected by majority of valid votes cast.
The Tribunal dismissed the petition against Mr Nwogu on the premise that the Petitioner failed to file for pre-hearing conference.
According to the Tribunal, the petition was frivolous and incompetent as it was not properly before the court.
Justice Ali Garba declared that as a result of the defects of the petition, the Tribunal lacked the jurisdiction to entertain.
Supporters of Kelechi Nwogu at the Tribunal celebrated as the new filtered into his constituency with youths and women group taking to the streets to celebrate.
In an interview, Mr Nwogu assured his constituents that he will represent them in a way that will attract development.
He thanked Governor Wike for providing the necessary leadership that has promoted development across Rivers State.
