TARABA : Govt Auctions Grounded Vehicles

The Taraba State government in its determination to purge the state of environmental degradation, thereby maintaining a healthy clean atmosphere has ordered for auction and immediate evacuation of all government grounded vehicles abandoned at various premises of Ministries, Boards and Agencies across the state.

The UNION reports the exercise which attracted thousands of bidders cut across the 16 local government areas of the state started with the sale of grounded and abandoned Taraba State Transport Corporation (TSTC) vehicles at the TSTC Workshop, along Yola road, Jalingo. According to our Correspondent, “The unserviceable vehicles, ignored at government establishments and parastatals by previous administrations in the state were exemplified as posing environmental pollution and hazard at designated government premises” The State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Dr. Tafarki Agbadu, yesterday while declaring open a one day exercise for the auctioning of government vehicles held at the Taraba State Transport Corporation (TSTC) Workshop, Jalingo, commended Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku for approving the exercise for the auctioning of government grounded vehicles, said, the exercise is part of the rescue mission of the Governor in the area of reducing environmental hazards within government premises.

The Commissioner stated that a Committee charged with the responsibility of auctioning the vehicles was set up by the Governor to work out modalities, following due process through the Bureau for Public Procurement of the state government. While calling on the members of the public to conduct themselves peacefully, Dr. Agbadu stressed that only the highest bidders are expected to purchase the vehicles, adding that the exercise is a continuous process. Earlier, in his address of welcome, the Chairman of the Auction Committee, Mr. Peninga Binga disclosed that a bid for the day’s public sale of the vehicles was informed to the general public through the media. “On the occasion of the take off of this exercise, I wish to point out that we have four duly certified Auctioneers to make sure that we carry out this assignment successfully”, he said.
