The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP caucus in the House of Representatives on Tuesday, demanded of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to release the results of the Rivers State rerun elections without delay.
Recall that INEC had suspended the further announcement of results due to irregularities and violence.
While addressing a press conference and speaking un behalf of the caucus, the Minority Leader of the House, Leo Ogor said any attempt to manipulate the results would be challenged by legal processes adding that INEC as the electoral umpire should play it’s role without taking sides.
He said It is very sad that INEC that is spearheading this illegality abetted by law enforcement agencies particularly, the military whose attention is needed mostly in the North Eastern States.
According to him, the immediate past President, Goodluck Jonathan should be hailed for leaving a good legacy as regards electoral conduct in the country.
“The essence of this press conference is to call on INEC to release the electoral results without any further delay.
“It would be very embarrassing that people will conduct election as an umpire and after that the people have given their mandate, have casted their vote for the right candidate and the right people have won they have decided to hold back the results.
“It is known to everybody that this results are before the public and any attempt to change them will not be accepted, we will follow all legal process to challenge it but they should play the role of an umpire rather than siding a section.
“The concept of using the Army in any election which APC even went to court to even challenge has now become the order of the day, I find it very embarrassing.
“The Commander in Chief is the only one in Section 218 that has the powers of the operational use of the Armed forces, “Ogor added.
