Reps Seek Immediate Payment Of Keshi, Shuaibu Entitlements

Dyepkazah Shibayan, Abuja

The House of Representatives, Tuesday, urged the Federal Government to immortalize late football icons, Stephen Keshi and Amodu Shuaibu, in the bid to encourage younger ones to give their best to the development of the country.

This is as the House mandated its committee on sports to liaise with the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) to ensure immediate payment of the entitlements due to families of Keshi and Shuaibu.

These resolutions by the House was sequel to motion on matters of urgent public importance sponsored by Hon. Samuel Onuigbo.

While describing their demise as a huge loss to the country and their families, Onuigbo stated that the two icons served Nigeria meritoriously.

As regards Shuaibu, he worried that he was being owed arrears by the Federal Government and the Edo state government when he worked as the director of the state youth football agency.

“These iconic Nigerians exercised leadership in football administration and impacted positively on the nation and on the world in ways that their outstanding accomplishment brought happiness to Nigerians.

“Even in the periods of economic and political adversities the icons died at a time the football sport was taking a nose dive, “he said.

The House adopted the motion after it was put to a voice vote by the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara.
