House of Representatives Committee on Tertiary Education yesterday declined to look into the 2016 budget proposal of the University of Illorin over frivolous spending in its 2015 budget performance.
The Committee led by Aminu Sulieman expressed displeasure at the sum of N42 million spent on hotel accommodation by the Vice Chancellor of the school, Prof. Abdulganiyu Ambali.
A member of the Committee, Rep. Kehinde Odeneye said, ”how can you have an hotel expenses of N42million? How many days were spent at the hotels and who were the guest you hosted.
”Then another N100million for take off grant for new departments without actually telling us how many they are and the things needed for the take off.
“N50million on workshops and seminars. This is apart from the training grants obtained. Then, there’s maintenance of buildings which also is without details”.
The committee further expressed displeasure at a project of 49million for road culverts which did not have details citing another N60million for environmental upgrading which as well was not detailed in 2015 budget performance of the university.
On his part, The VC said the institution has a number of MoU with many individuals who are important visitors to the University.
