Reps: PAC Members To Undergo Training

House of Representatives members in the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will embark on intensive courses to understand annual reports from the office of the Auditor General of the Federation.

Chairman of the committee, Hon. Kingsley Chinda made this disclosure at the weekend in Abuja during the committee’s inaugural meeting.

Chinda said that the essence of embarking on such a course on auditing principles is to enable members of the committee understand the Auditor General’s annual reports of Ministries Departments and Agencies of government (MDAs) .

The law maker explained that “some of us as members of the House do not understand basics of auditing and if we embark on this training it will give us the residual knowledge of the course”.

“I will make a presentation on this to the House leadership so that we can start immediately and as you are aware this committee has been empowered by Sections 88 and 89 of the

1999 constitution as amended to vet and verify the books of all MDAs.

“The volume of work is enormous and I strongly believe that this committee is up to the task to check mate corruption and fraud in most MDAs as expressly stated in our constitution”.
