Dyepkazah Shibayan, Abuja

The House of Representatives on Thursday faulted the Minister of Communication Technology, Adebayo Shittu over the suspension of the Director – General of the National Information Technology Agency (NITDA), Peter Jack over an alleged misconduct.

The House said the powers for the suspension of the agency’s DG, according to NITDA Act, are only vested on the governing board not the minister.

Sponsor of the motion, Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo, under a matter of urgent national importance, told the House that despite the alleged misconduct of the DG, due process ought to have been followed in taken that action.

Quoting section 7 (C) of the NITDA Act, the law maker said that it is clearly seen that the discipline, removal or suspension of the DG was not done in consonace with the law.

The House adopting the motion after a voice vote resolved to invite the minister to appear before its joint committees of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and communication to brief the law makers of the failure to respect the provisions of the Act.
