The Rivers State Police Command killed four kidnappers in Khana Local Government Area doing a gun battle.
The command’s spokesman Mr. Ahmad Muhammad disclosed this in a statement in Poet Harcourt, Rivers State.
Muhammad explained that the kidnappers were killed during a rescue operation at the kidnappers den where the Registrar of the Ken Saro Wiwa Polytechnic, Mrs Lillian Davies was kept.
The police disclosed that on Friday, November 20, “ at about 3:30 pm, special tactical outfit set up by the Commissioner of Police to tackle the menace of kidnappings in the state had safely rescued Mrs. Lilian Davies, the Registrar of Ken Saro Wiwa Polytechnic Bori, who was kidnapped on 17/11/2015 while on transit along Bori-Yaghe road. She was rescued at the bush around Kaani in Khana Local Government.
“The rescue team during the operation has a fierce gun duel with the kidnappers resulting to the death of four kidnappers. One AK47 rifle, one locally made pistol, one magazine, 25 rounds of 7.62 live ammunition and five cartridges were recovered at the scene after the operation.”
In a related development, a team of police operatives on a tip off raided suspected armed robbers hide out situated along Ada George, Port Harcourt.
The operation led to the arrest of three males suspected armed robbers namely Goodluck Worwu, Charles Wogu and Atochi Ezizie.
Items recovered from them include one (2) two AK 47 rifles, one (1) K2 rifle, five (5) magazines, one hundred and thirty five (135) rounds of 7.62 live ammunition and assorted charms. State Criminal Investigation Department is investigating the case.
