Patrick Osadebamwen, Abuja

Substantive chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party will emerge in August in accordance with the three months duration demanded by the party constitution for replacement of vacant office of the executives. Secretary of the Board of Trustees (BoT Walid Jibrin said this yesterday while fielding questions from reporters after the Board’s meeting at the Wadata House in Abuja. His words: “Like you are aware the appointment of the acting Chairman Is for three months and after three months we will seat again, because by our constitution the board of trustees regulates it’s own activities. We will regulate our own activities when the time comes.”

Walid said the until then the party’s structures designed to regulate the party is still in full force and providing guidance to party, it’s executives and elected members of the party across the country. It would be recalled that the former chairman, Adamu Mua’zu had resigned his position as the chairman of the PDP on the 20th of May, 2015 following calls by stake holders of the party for his resignation on the dismal performance of the party at the polls.

He said the Board was interested in the synergy of its elected members and the party as well as that of the appointments in the National assembly stressing that the BoT was alive to its responsibility of providing guidance to the party.

The secretary of the PDP Board of Trustees also said that the task ahead of the party’s post election committee demanded meticulous approach and time which the committee sought from the BoT and secured approval for 10 weeks extension to enable the committee conduct a thorough investigation and come up with recommendations that would drive the party forward.

He said the party was on its way back to prominence for which it was once known emphasizing that the BoT needs the cooperation and understanding of all its members to effectively lead the party back in line with the aspiration of all party faithfuls. “We have sought for an extension for up to 10 weeks to complete our job as three weeks will not allow us to do a proper job. We have asked the NWC to look at it and have accepted and granted the permission to extend it to 10 weeks. I do not think we are going to exceed that 10 weeks
