Osun: We Won’t Lose Focus On Education Development -Aregbesola

Governor Rauf Aregbesola has assured that his administration will not lose focus in its bid to restructure, and revamp, the education system in Osun state

The governor gave the assurance at the combined 24th graduation ceremony and Award of Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) to graduands of 2007/2008; 2008/2009, 2009/2010, 2010/2011 academic sets and award of prizes and conferment of honorary fellowship at the auditorium of Osun State College of Education in Ilesa.

Aregbesola who said several achievements have been made since assumption of office on education, promised of better continuity.

Identifying some of his strides in education, he said his administration has successfully restructured and reclassified the education system in all its categories in the state.

According to him, some dilapidated structures had been rehabilitated while efforts had also been made to give education the best attention required.

Aregbesola then ordered the authorities of the institution to organise all outstanding graduation before the end of 2017 and that the remaining programmes must be concluded in two batches before December, 2017.

The governor also called on the management of the institution to buckle-up and do the needful towards finding lasting solution to academic hiccups in the institution.

He however debunked the allegation that his administration was planning to close down some institutions, saying that on no account would his government envisage such idea.

He said efforts were on top gear to ascertain total restructuring of all the state owned tertiary institutions for greater competency, effectiveness and productivity.

He therefore congratulated the graduands for successful completion of their studies, just as he charged them on the need to remain focused as they are expected to contribute meaningful toward the development and upliftment of their various communities, state and Nigeria.

The Chairman of the Interim Governing Council, Osun State College of Education, Dr. Adeniyi Adedeji said the school under his leadership has been able to put the college in the right track of development in all ramifications.

He said the institution through hard work and prudent management of scarce resources has also moved the institution forward, saying the management who perceived the low student enrolment as abysmal had successfully improved the situation as the enrolment is now encouraging.

He disclosed that the institution has been able to secure special and normal interventions from the Tertiary Education Trust Funds (TETFUND) which according to him led to the unprecedented increase in the number of critical infrastructures in the college.

Itemizing some of the achievement, Mr. Adedeji said 1500-siting capacity college multipurpose hall, a two-storey academic staff office complex, a computer based auditorium, a 250 capacity lecture theatre among others were constructed to improve the standard of education.

He thanked the Aregbesola-led government in the state for developing public education in the state, just as he assured the state of drastic contribution to upsurge the state internally generated revenue.

Earlier, the provost of the college, Dr S. K Adegoke disclosed that 6,600 students who have been found worthy for the award of the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) are graduating on the convocation.

He said that the institution was graduating 1,499 students for 2007/2008 set, 1,506 students for 2008/2009 set, 1,394 students for 2009/2010 set and 2,201 students for 2010/2011 respectively.
